This week, the Business Services team attended OCE’s flagship Discovery conference in Toronto. A true meeting of the entrepreneurial minds, the conference was chalked full with a multi-stakeholder expo, concurrent workshops, multiple pitch competitions, impressive keynotes, and great food and networking.
Walking onto the expo floor, I was immediately hit by the sheer volume and magnitude of Ontario’s entrepreneurship scene. To the left of our booth was the Korean Trade Investment booth, with start-ups flying in from Korea; across from me was Invest Ottawa; and to my far right was a giant blow up jar of Nutella, the marketing collateral for the Ontario Hazelnut Association. Across geography, industry and size, Discovery was a true showcase of entrepreneurship in the region.
Equally exciting was the London representation. Not only did we have a strong showing, with seven of our entrepreneurs boothing at Discovery, but we were also front and centre in the promotional videos shown at the event. Sitting in the awards ceremony, Contend, Topspin 360, and Pascal Press were all featured as lead examples of success in entrepreneurship.
And of course, no trip to Toronto would be complete without taking in a game. As the doors to the convention centre closed, the teams from TechAlliance, Propel (Western) and WETech (Windsor) hustled into the Rogers Centre for some baseball. While we lost the game, but we built on great friendships and the chance to continue building the London-Windsor healthcare corridor.
