As part of the Digital Disruption Track, OpenText invited 30 of its partners to submit their technology solutions to be part of the first-ever business pitch competition. The field was then narrowed down to just five finalists who would stand on stage to present their innovative company to a panel of judges, comprised of senior OpenText executives, venture capitalists and other industry experts, in the hopes of winning a $100,000 cash prize.
Each company answered detailed questions on their business plans and were judged on the quality of their pitches, and their answers were truly impressive. Once each had presented, it was time for the panel, along with Enterprise World attendees, to cast their votes.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s top 5 finalists featured a local London startup, Dibbzz! Dibbzz is a hot tech startup, empowering patrons of the performing arts, concerts and sporting events to instantly upgrade their seats to better ones. Not ever having to download an app or visit the box office, Dibbzz’s unique platform enables patrons to text their way to a better seat, quickly.
Founder Brennon D’Souza commented, “From our recent partnership with Interac, to starting our seed funding round, this OpenText involvement is a sincere expression of the trust and confidence our upgrade solution is garnering from the community. Having a huge, established enterprise software vendor consider us to present is a great validation of our vision to enhance every patrons experience in venues across Canada.” Dibbzz has created a proven concept of upgrading existing ticket holders to better seats, from unused inventory. Brennon explains that this process provides instant gratification, and a better fan experience for the customer, while increasing the venues bottom line. Although Dibbzz is currently only in performing arts venues, their eyes are set on the sporting entertainment space, which they will be working with in the near future.
Adam Howatson, chief marketing officer of OpenText commented, “We are thrilled to play a role in helping groundbreaking companies. The path of technology is paved with innovations from companies bringing new developments to challenge the future of business. We recognize their great potential for impact and congratulates them on this stunning accomplishment.”
The Digital Disruption track at OpenText Enterprise World also provided innovative start-up and early stage companies the opportunity to exhibit alongside some of the biggest companies in the technology market, demonstrating their technologies within the main conference expo hall. This sort of exposure was great for Dibbzz – with such a simple product offering, conference patrons were able to click with the idea after only a few seconds at the booth.
