The London District Renewable Energy Co-operative (LDREC) is seeking members interested in investing in local energy projects with the organization. LDREC was created with the objective of providing a vehicle for Londoners to invest in their community, while leveraging the stability of the Feed In Tarrif (FIT) Contracts provided by the Ontario Power Authority. Londoners can purchase a LDREC membership which will provide an opportunity to invest further in those local renewable energy projects that LDREC is able to secure.
Ultimately, by investing in LDREC, the members are investing in renewable energy opportunities in the London area. It allows those without the specific expertise, suitable property, required time and absolute funding to participate in renewable energy projects in their own community.
LDREC is at the stage where they are seeking 50 or more Londoners who have owned property in the City of London for two or more consecutive years to be the first members of the Co-operative. As a Co-operative with 50 members meeting the criteria, LDREC will be aided in meeting its objective of having priority when applying for FIT contracts. LDREC has already identified and begun negotiations with multiple parties regarding the possibility of investing in up to 20 different solar photovoltaic projects in the London area.
