Southwestern Ontario’s game development community showed off their latest projects at this year’s Game Slice showcase. With exhibitors from London and beyond, a diverse range of developers, artists and game enthusiasts put their efforts on display to source user feedback and new ideas from peers. Whether you’re seeking inspiration for your next project or want to support entrepreneurs in the region, here are some up-and-coming games to demo, purchase and track as they continue to develop.

Thief of Thieves: Season One on Nintendo Switch – Joydrop Ltd.
Playtesters experienced the thrill of this award-winning character-driven heist game ported by Joydrop to Nintendo Switch. Based on the hit comic book series, the full Thief of Thieves anthology will be available on the eShop Nintendo Switch on November 12. Learn more about this game on the Rival Games website.
Vault: Tomb of the King – Bee Bomb Games
Since their win at last year’s event, this action-puzzle dungeon crawler has established an audience with their finger on the pulse, anxiously awaiting new updates. Experience the latest version of their demo, released earlier this year and available to play on Game Jolt.
Foregone – Big Blue Bubble
The London-based gaming leader’s newest action-platformer boasts vibrant fluid pixel animation that adds a punch of nostalgia to intense, combat-focused gameplay as you shoot and slash your way through hordes of monsters. Available for purchase in Winter 2019. Wishlist it on Steam.
Blightmare – Plateau Games
This 2D puzzling platformer took playtesters on a journey through the lens of a young heroine as she confronts darkness and hope through exciting adventure gameplay, complemented by whimsical scenery that reflects the inner-workings of the heroine’s mind. The game will be released in 2019. Wishlist it on Steam.
Yuser – Yuser
Gamify the world around you on this social networking app that rewards users with gems and allows them to cash out IRL at local vendors. Download the app on iOS or Android.
Unblock Gridlock – Analog Casual Studios
With the familiarity of a sliding block puzzle, this game of strategy is as addictive as it is classic, offering over 9000 “traffic jams” to solve. Buy it on Steam.
SHNIPERS – Brenden Cameron Games
Fire bullets that bounce off of every surface in this multiplayer combat platformer, originally created at the 2014 Toronto Game Jam. This game is in active development. Download V 0.7 on itch.io or wishlist it on Steam.
Cute Animal Therapy – Cute Animal Therapy
The brainchild and winner of this year’s London Game Jam (LoJam), Cute Animal Therapy is a digital playground helping kids deal with real-world emotions and mental wellness skills. By gamifying mental wellness exercises and habits, exhibitors Amanda and Gleb hope to teach healthy coping skills at an early age. You can play the game on itch.io.
Scooch – Chris Mulholland
Sarnia-based game developer Chris Mulholland kept playtesters entertained with his arcade-style maze game. Build your combo, but be sure to avoid the red blocks. Play Scooch now on Newgrounds.
Arrows Left – Moving Pixels
Working with the theme “only one” at GMTK Game Jam 2019, Moving Pixels’ simple design presents challenging gameplay with only one action available. Defend your village from goblins, but remember — you can only move to the left. Try it now on itch.io.

Codename: Shifter – Cat Splat Studios
This classic arcade-style shooter gameplay features upgradable skills and in-game currency to buy weapons for your ship. With a London-based technical director, we’re always eager to keep up with their updates on Twitter.
Worse for Warfare – Swequity Gaming
This cross-country collective of game enthusiasts mentions that their first game is an homage to the classic 2-player twin-stick shooter co-op. With a few London-based team members, these self-proclaimed #CouchShrooms are using this passion project to stay rooted. Keep up with their updates on Twitter.
Cat Café – Extremely Normal People
Enjoy a fluffy spin on an Overcooked-style diner game with Cat Café. Featuring food, animals and straight-forward mechanics for anyone to grasp, this game is easy to pick up and difficult to put down.
Spooky Racers – London Sports Game Studios
Explore a new, Halloween-themed twist on racing with Spooky Racers. Keep up with their updates on Facebook.
Aria – Owls
Another LoJam presenter, Team Owls showcased their mental wellness concept through the power of audio with Aria. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this group of technical talents and creatives as they continue to develop this visually and aurally stunning game. Wicked Mayhem – Wicked Mayhem
Play a cunning witch terrorizing unsuspecting villagers in Wicked Mayhem. With fun enhancements and challenging foes along the way, this game makes it satisfying to play on the evil side. Still in development, V 0.0.3 is available to play on their website.
Age of Discovery – Bonehead Games
Game Slice participants got a sneak peek of a new 2D adventure RPG. Explore new worlds and mythical creatures with your team of heroes. This game is still in development, but follow Bonehead Games on Facebook for updates.

Mic Drop – Berdandy Studios
“Follow a dumpster fire of a band on a train wreck of an album tour” in this dramatic tabletop RPG where players interact with “fans” on social media. Craft your band persona and play via Gumroad.
Mind MGMT: The Psychic Espionage “Game” – Sen-Foong Lim
Based on the popular graphic novel series by Matt Kindt, Mind MGMT puts an analog spin on the thrill of a team-based game with variable player powers.
