Hello! My name is Ubong and I’m thrilled to be joining TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario as the Business Services Coordinator. At my core, I’m a visionary and a business professional who enjoys taking on new challenges and being stretched to the limit. I love to learn, experiment, try new things and expand my toolset (the qualities which make me ideal for this role). I graduated from Western University with an Honours undergraduate degree in Economics, Politics and Philosophy in 2014. Throughout my undergraduate experience, I began to fan an entrepreneurial flame within me. I branched out and explored creative ambitions, co-hosting a show at Radio Western (I now have my own radio show called UBU on Faith FM 99.9), speaking/performing poetry on Western TV and other events, starting my own staged variety shows called Voice of Reason and continuing to look for opportunities to mix my entrepreneurial spirit, creative passion and analytical skills.
I invested into strengthening my business acumen, graduating from Ivey Business School’s MSc in Management program (specializing in International Business) in 2016. Before the program started (and throughout the program), I worked as a Research Assistant at Ivey Business School in a leadership and strategic management study in the National Hockey League. The exploratory study sought to find the relevant experiences that contributed to general managers winning the Stanley Cup. The study involved doing an extensive hockey history review, creating profiles of over 170 general managers, looking for relevant commonalities, and creating a final data set of 15,860 data points for further analysis.
Ivey created an environment where I was encouraged to make and justify swift decisions, and accompanied this environment with hands-on consulting experience. Among other achievements, I was a runner up in Ivey’s inaugural MSc case competition along with four other teammates. One of the highlights of the experience was being a Consulting Intern in Kerala, India. During this time, I spent 8 weeks with three other interns creating a B2B and B2C marketing campaign for a management company that oversaw the operations of a portfolio of houseboats and hotels in Southern India.
I chose TechAlliance of Southwestern Ontario because it’s an organization that enables me to share what I’ve learned through school, work and personal experience with local start-ups. As the Business Services Coordinator, I will be the first point of contact for entrepreneurs in pursuit of growing their businesses. I know what it’s like to create something from nothing and invest time, effort and money into something you believe in. Entrepreneurship is an exciting space to be in and I look forward to assisting you in any way that I can.
