A local London firm has created a swimming pool pump controller designed to save the average consumer 75% to 90% on their energy bill. The Blue Wave, created by Londoner Jim Ische, is the world’s only 220Vac single-phase motor controller capable of operating all induction motors.
The invention, already making waves in the industry, won the coveted Venture London Startup Award and was selected in the top 10 companies vying for three spots on CBC’s The Dragon’s Den special energy innovation episode.
By reducing the speed of the motor, the Blue Wave not only provides an eco-friendly opportunity to reduce electricity usage, but also offers vast improvements over traditional controller systems. The newest system allows all pool owners to save up to 90% on electricity with their current 220Vac pool pump motor through a reduction of motor speed by 70%.
Just in time for the recent implementation of Smart Meters, the summer Time of Use pricing, as well as the latest announcement of a 3% May 1 hydro increase, the Blue Wave also provides an extremely quiet motor, better pool filter disinfection performance, a reduction of chemical use, and 24 hour water circulation. The controller also features a seasonal real time clock, requires no user programming and allows for speeds to be set based on the time of day and season.
With energy rates having increased to well over 16 cents with fees in the last six years, the Blue Wave system will reduce the local user’s energy bills immediately, with a payback period of 12 months, or 3-4 pool seasons.
