Key Personnel

Jack Sousa — Managing Partner

Jack is a partner in Brown Beattie O’Donovan’s real estate and commercial development group. His practice is focused on real estate development, purchases and sales, mortgages, as well as corporate and commercial transactions.

He holds memberships in the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Middlesex Law Association. Jack is active in the Portuguese community.

Jack is a graduate of the University of Windsor where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree. He was called to the Bar in 1986.

 

David Laws — Partner

Dave is a partner in BBO’s corporate/commercial and real estate groups. His practice is focused on corporate and commercial law, commercial real estate, bank financing, trademarks, as well as wills and estates.

Dave holds memberships in the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Middlesex Law Association. Dave is a past member of the Waterloo Rotary Club and former director of the VON Waterloo Region Branch. He is an avid soccer player and has coached numerous youth teams at the house league and competitive levels. He is the past president of the Golden Triangle Masters Soccer league

Dave earned his Bachelor of Arts, and later his Bachelor of Laws degree, from the University of Western Ontario. He was called to the Bar in 1986.

 

Vikas Sharma — Associate

Vikas is an associate in our corporate/commercial and real estate groups, he joined BBO as an Articling Student in 2017. While an articling Vikas became heavily involved in London’s Technology and Start-Up scene, his practice is focused on Technology and Start-Ups Companies, commercial transactions, real estate, wills, and estates. In 2018 Vikas was awarded The Osgoode Certificate in Intellectual Property Licensing.

Vikas obtained both his Juris Doctorate and Honors in Sociology and Minor in Criminology from the University of Western Ontario. While at the University of Western Ontario, Vikas assisted many Start-Up companies in their business operations and marketing. He was also one of the initial members of the business incubator at Western University.

Vikas is raised in London, Ontario and serves clients from the London and surrounding areas. In his spare time, Vikas plays the Tabla and volunteers at his local Temple. He also enjoys golfing and playing pickup basketball. Vikas is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi. He holds memberships in the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Middlesex Law Association.

 

Joseph Van Asseldonk — Associate

Joe is an associate in our corporate/commercial and real estate groups. His practice is focused on corporate and commercial transactions, commercial real estate, bank financing, mortgages, real estate development, as well as wills and estates.

He holds memberships in the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Middlesex Law Association. Joe is an active alumnus of the Western Mustangs Varsity Athletics program.

Joe likes to remain active in the community through his involvement in a number of organizations: he enjoys coaching minor football at both the elementary and high school levels and is also involved with a number of other local sports groups.

Joe is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where he earned both a degree in Finance and Administration as well as a Juris Doctor of Laws. He was called to the bar in 2013.
