Gareth Nichols – Regional Director, Western Ontario
Gareth has over 25 years of international finance experience working in both public and private companies, including both high growth and corporate turnarounds. As well as his role as the Regional Director for Western Ontario, he serves as a part-time CFO for a number of growing companies in the region and volunteers as Vice Chair of the Impact Investments Due Diligence Committee for the Kitchener Waterloo Community Foundation.
Gareth’s roles have involved a number of different sectors, including software, telecommunications infrastructure, financial services, mobile communications, food, capital equipment and long term contracts. He has worked for Marconi plc, Cadbury Schweppes plc, FKI plc and Research in Motion (Blackberry) and was recently the group CFO for a large private financial services group.
Gareth has led a number of margin improvement initiatives focused on procurement and operational efficiency and effectiveness throughout the product lifecycle and has worked with a number of companies to develop planning processes, management reporting and KPIs. As well as his operational expertise, he also has significant corporate governance experience having served as a director and corporate secretary, developed risk management processes, improved internal controls.
A Chartered Accountant, Gareth has a B.Eng in Production Engineering and Production Management from the University of Nottingham, England.
Eric Martin – Principal, Western Ontario
Eric has over 25 years of experience in finance and senior management, and has worked in a wide variety of industries including retail, distribution, construction, food and beverage, hi-tech manufacturing, industrial sales and services, transportation, and real estate. He has held senior management positions with companies such as Superior Propane, OWL Distribution, and FTI. He has extensive experience in all aspects of finance including budgeting, management reporting, banking, cash flow, foreign exchange, business valuations and mergers, taxes, legal claims, and IT implementations.
Aside from working for larger companies like Superior Propane, Eric has a great deal of experience with small to medium-sized businesses and being a trusted advisor to senior managers and owners. He is an excellent communicator and facilitator who can work with people from many different backgrounds and help them work together to reach the business’s goals.
Eric has a record of initiating and managing key projects that have driven businesses in several industries to record breaking levels of growth and profitability. He has a big picture, general management mindset and has a very strong background in strategy, marketing and sales, product costing and pricing, operations improvements, inventory management, turnarounds, negotiations, and cost cutting.
Eric has a Bachelors’ degree and Masters’ degree in Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University and also holds a CPA designation.
