Arcane combines digital innovation with ad agency strategies and brand storytelling to deliver ROI-obsessed marketing campaigns.
1. What is your role and what is your favorite part of your job?
As President & CEO my role is diverse, and that’s why I love it. Arcane is comprised of a group of driven professionals all striving toward a common goal. Part of my job is to help provide the 30,000’ view, constantly looking as far ahead on our business as possible. As a team, we drive our clients’ businesses forward and as a collaborative we are highly adaptive and dynamic, which allows us to solve new project objectives as they arise. Another part of my role is to align our business objectives so we don’t lose focus, to help execute strategies, tactics, and initiatives as planned.
2. If you could have coffee with any business leader or industry expert, who would you choose, and why?
Everyone and anyone actually. Expert or not, it doesn’t matter to me. I feel quite strongly that wisdom, vision, and inspiration come from every part of the every day. I am known to meet with anyone at anytime, whether or not it’s directly related to my business at Arcane. As a connector myself, I believe there is power in communicating and connecting with others. To me this is what drives my passion as a business owner and serial entrepreneur. When you mix that with a constantly opportunistic mentality, every encounter presented has value in some form or another. You just have to be open-minded with what the outcomes may be.
3. What is the #1 business book/blog/website you would recommend?
Outside of TechCrunch, I have always been easily distracted and am known to not sit still for long periods of time. Personally, I receive the most inspiration from people, and I recommend face-to-face interaction wherever possible. This isn’t to say that there aren’t a number of useful and insightful publications out there, but I feel we all spend far too much time these days with our noses in some type of device, so I prefer to be active in conversation, most often with other like-minded individuals.
4. Looking at your company’s future, what are you most enthusiastic about?
I would have to say that outside of our current, day-to-day success with our partners and their rapid growth in digital acquisition. Our business partnerships both ongoing and new are strategic and very direct and so everyday I am inspired. Our ability to add value to our partners allows us to build long-term and profitable growth.
Internally, we are working on two major forward thinking projects that involve the development of FORMULA (our proprietary open-source code platform product) and MORPHIO (our proprietary predictive web automation algorithm built on machine learning methods). Understanding more about the patent process and the lengthy battle for automation in marketing has forced us to carve our own path to further succeed in the rapid changing market. This push will continue to align Arcane as an authoritative leader in global Dividend Marketing and will further differentiate our value proposition.
The digital landscape is an exciting environment again and it seems that for those looking, the opportunities are endless. We couldn’t be more excited about our team, our amazing partners, and the community that allows
5. What excites you most about the local tech community?
I’m most excited by the strong growth and emerging identity of our local tech community. Moving into SOHO establishes yet another digital/marketing/advertising company that will help bring more growth to the downtown core. Currently we have over 35 staff members (and growing) and we love being able to live and work inside this evolving area. I have had a chance to talk to some of the other visionaries of the SOHO community and some of their plans are aggressive, yet exciting and very possible. I believe that London has an opportunity to solidify its position as a true powerhouse in tech while offering best in class employment and career growth, a unique and growing culture, and infrastructure change and development.
6. What causes or community activities is your company involved in?
Arcane is actively involved in mentoring local students. Through our academic internship program, we have employed various students from both Western and Fanshawe to provide them with valuable experience in the marketing industry. We work closely alongside each student to develop a set of goals they would like to achieve. The numerous tasks they are assigned assist in improving their interpersonal, cognitive, and leadership skills. When an individual’s time with Arcane is complete, we provide them with an effective reference letter to help further their career. At Arcane, we take great pride in working with these students, as they are the future of London’s economic and social growth.
