The Member Spotlight is a monthly opportunity to learn more about a leader, innovator or entrepreneur in the tech community. This month, we spotlight Konrad Konnerth of Konnexio.
What is your mobile device of choice, and why?
I am carrying an iPhone 4 with me. I use and love a lot of apps that are available for the iPhone. And the phone itself, although a little bit dated by now, is still advanced enough for my needs. It also works well enough for me to sync with my Windows programs (such as Outlook), so that I don’t have to open my laptop all the time when traveling.
Who do you look to for inspiration, in business or your personal life?
Thankfully I have a large group of friends and family who are also entrepreneurs and with whom I can exchange ideas and get inspiration. Some of them are locally, here in London, but a lot of them are oversees in different parts of the world. With my brother in Germany, who works in the same industry as I am, I speak regularly to exchange ideas and whenever we can, we meet somewhere and travel together.
What is the #1 business book you would recommend?
Business Model Generation by Alexander Osterwalder, Yves Pigneur, based on a concept that was developed by a crowd of 470 people in 45 countries. This is “A Handbook for Visionaries, Game Changers, and Challengers striving to defy outmoded business models and design tomorrow’s enterprises”. A little bit of a mouth full, but an excellent tool to understand and develop business models that are on the cutting edge.
What keeps you up at night?
Mostly HR related issues. I am always thinking of ways to improve our productivity, to have our employees motivated and to encourage them to think outside the box.
Looking at your company’s future, what are you most enthusiastic about?
I am very excited about our growth potential and our ability to do international projects. Except for the two years during the 2008/2009 recession, KONNEXIO has grown at an average of 20% per year, and we are on track to do even better in the next few years. We have developed new technology for the automation industry and are now starting to deploy this technology into the field. Our modular machine concept has the potential to revolutionize the automation industry. We have always been very export oriented (with sales in the US and Europe) and I believe that this mindset will help us to grow even quicker in the near future.
