1. What is your role and what is your favorite part of your job?
As COO, and founding partner, my the best part of my job is networking and sharing knowledge with my customers. I love interacting with my customers to understand their goals and challenges and then formulating an applicable solution. It is equally exciting and rewarding to help someone overcome their hurdles and head down a path towards greater results as well as to have the opportunity to apply their insight and experience to strengthen my business.
2. If you could have coffee with any business leader or industry expert, who would you choose, and why?
I have followed Robert Herjavec since his earliest days on CBC’s Dragon’s Den. I strongly relate to his humble origin and early life experiences. I would most want to hear his story behind how he built his empire and transitioned into one of Canada’s most successful businessmen. I would benefit from both his knowledge, and advice as well as from the inspiration his story provides. I hope to one day be able to confirm my assumption that he is a 2 milk, 2 sugar man.
3. What is the #1 business book/blog/website you would recommend?
If you are starting a business and planning your product or business strategy you should absolutely read “Running Lean” by Ash Mauyra. “Running Lean” is a time saving, concise, and comprehensive planning strategy tool the is a classic example of “working smarter”. I also love to read articles that pertain to tech industry news and entrepreneurs. For this I turn online to entrepreneur.com, inc.com, and my LinkedIn “Pulse” feed.
4. Looking at your company’s future, what are you most enthusiastic about?
In a single word, potential. Potential is neither absolute nor guaranteed. The goal of every entrepreneur is to try to maximize or exceed the forecasted potential you feel your business holds. As with most other aspects in life this is where the excitement lies. To know that potential will either be realized or squandered as a direct result of your efforts and decisions is energizing and motivating.
5. What excites you most about the local tech community?
It wasn’t that long ago that aspirations in the Technology sector could have only been fulfilled in large US centres. It is exciting for me as an entrepreneur to have the local resources, support, and opportunities in my own backyard. Through local organizations like TechAlliance, provincial OCE resources, municipal initiatives such as the LondonPlan, and local higher education partnerships there has never been a better time to enter the local technology sector….and it’s only getting better.
