Name: Andrew Mullings
Title: Account Executive
Company: POI Business Interiors
What is your role and what is your favourite part of your job?
At POI London, my role is Account Executive with a New Business Development focus. What I love most about my role is building relationships, listening to clients, helping them figure out their needs, and then working with a team to deliver a solution that will create a lasting, recurring relationship.
If you could have coffee with any business leader or industry expert, who would you choose, and why?
There are actually two leaders who I would love to have coffee with. Locally, it would be Allen Loney, the CEO of London Life. He’s not the leader of a tech company but London Life has made a financial commitment to the city of London and helped put us on the Canadian business map. You can’t be a London business person and not have full respect for the growth that London Life has experienced and the jobs it has created across this country. The other would be Mike Lazaridis—the founder of the device that single-handedly revolutionized the smartphone and positioned Canada as a major player in the tech industry. I bet he has a lot of excellent key learnings to share. For that, it may require a chat over very good wine.
What is the #1 business book/blog/website you would recommend?
The Tipping Point is a terrific read for every business professional, especially if you’re focus is sales and marketing. It’s about understanding how your product, your business, can make a difference–becoming a game changer. The Blackberry did it, as did itunes and Netflix.
Looking at your company’s future, what are you most enthusiastic about?
I’m excited with the growth opportunities that POI Business Interiors has had and continues to see as we move forward. We’re now competing with some of the major competitors in our industry and in many respects, leading! Jeff Crane, President, POI London started this business from the ground up, right here in London, Ontario. He has had the foresight and leadership to also build a team of passionate people who believe in this company, at all levels. I’m really proud of that and certainly of him too!
What excites you most about the local tech community?
Let’s start with the fact that London has a vibrant tech community. I live here and I know this but we need to continue to tell this story beyond our southwestern Ontario borders. We need to start right here at home in our efforts to attract the best of our graduates at University of Western and Fanshawe College. Don’t graduate and leave, stay here and thrive.
What causes or community activities is your company involved in?
Being new to London, Jeff told me that the easiest way to meet people is volunteer my time. I was very fortunate to be a part of the Business Care’s Food Drive this year and will continue to serve on the committee next year. POI London has been involved with United Way,Sunshine Foundation, Juvenile Diabetics, Canadian Lung Association, London Girls & Boys, etc. for the past years.
