Robertson Hall Insurance is an insurance broker providing business insurance, personal insurance and risk management advice. We offer a full range of insurance products such as commercial property, liability, professional liability, fleet, bonding, directors and officers liability, cyber liability as well as home and auto insurance.
What is your role and what is the favourite part of your job?
My role is divided into two functions. One is to oversee the company’s operations as it pertains to our strategic plan. The other is to develop and service business insurance clients in our office. My favourite part of the job is the daily interaction with our staff and clients.
If you could have a coffee with any business leader or industry expert who would you choose and why?
Elon Musk CEO Tesla Inc. and SpaceX. Elon is someone I have admired for many years as a strong business leader. I would like to know his thoughts on technology, industry disruption, social media and where he sees our business/industry in 10 years.
What is the number one business book or blog you would recommend?
One of the best business books that I’ve read is called Good to Great by Jim Collins. It’s an informative and knowledgeable business study of how companies transition from good companies to great companies. It also discusses why some companies fail at this process.
Looking at your companies future what are you most enthusiastic about?
I am very excited about embracing new technology and new ways of doing business in our industry. A few years ago, I never would have imagined how much you could grow and service your business through various forms of social media. It is a challenging time but a great time to be in business.
What excites you most about the local tech community?
I am amazed at the number and diversity of technology related companies in the London area. You seem to hear about a new success story nearly everyday. The technology community has grown so much since I started working 20 years ago. All the jobs created from this focus on the technology sector are a positive for the city of London. Thanks to TechAlliance for playing such a big role in the success of the tech community.
What causes or community activities is your company involved in?
We are involved with charities such as Toys for Tots, Ronald McDonald House, the London Food Bank Program and Habitat for Humanity. We enjoy sponsoring the Western University Women’s Basketball Team, Fowler Kennedy Sports Injury Clinic and some junior hockey teams as well.
