Below is a message we’re passing on from Team 3739 Oakbotics. Please consider supporting their cause.
Team 3739 Oakbotics is a FIRST Robotics community team. We are a team of dedicated and ambitious high school age students. FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” and is an internationally recognized organization that strives to spread knowledge of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in communities worldwide. Not only is it a great program for students interested in the STEM fields of study, but it also provides real life experience to those students interested in business, leadership, media, filmmaking, website programming, and computer aided design (CAD).
FIRST is run in a similar way to how major sports competitions are run. At the large kickoff in January of each year, 5000 FIRST teams from around the world are put to the test. They are given only 6 weeks to design and build from scratch a 120lbs robot to play a game that FIRST designs. Each year the game is different and challenging. In the past, some games have included playing disc golf, volleyball with yoga balls, stacking totes using a forklift, scaling a castle wall, or climbing a rope.
In March, the teams then proceed to take their robots to 2 district events and compete in 3-day events in each district. At the Western University and waterloo University events, Team 3739 Oakbotics will compete with and against approximately 40 other FIRST teams. These tournaments are set up as randomized 3 versus 3 in the qualifier rounds and 3 versus 3 alliance teams in the elimination rounds. Team 3739 Oakbotics will compete to see who has built the best robots, the top few of which compete in the Ontario District Championship event in Toronto. The winners of District Champs then proceed to the World championships held in Detroit, Michigan this year.
Oakbotics is committed to helping out in our community. This past year we have volunteered at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Tournament for elementary school students, did robot demonstrations to the local scout troop to introduce them to FIRST, and achieved over 35 successful community outreach events.
FIRST is an international competition, however the majority of the 400,000 students involved are North American. The competitions in South-Western Ontario are livestreamed to nearly a million people every year and thousands come together to share ideas and projects. Marketing your company to these viewers is an excellent opportunity. Sponsorship can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, and this money will directly support our endeavour in building a fully functioning robot. Currently, we are offering a 3-tier sponsorship program. If you are able to support a monetary or material based sponsorship on that level, we will offer these following marketing and advertising benefits:
Bronze Tier A sponsorship of $100 or more: For a year, your company will have a spot for a logo on our website.
Silver Tier A sponsorship of $500 or more: For a year, we will put your company’s logo on our team shirts, in the pit station area, and on our brochures plus all of the above.
Gold Tier A sponsorship of $1000 or more: For a year, our robot will display your logo at every event we attend. Additionally, the district event playbill will display your company name. Lastly, every time our team is represented in the elimination bracket at an event, your name will be mentioned as a sponsor.
