Disrupt HR is an event designed to shake up the human resources practice with innovative speakers teaching new approaches. Glendalynn Dixon, of Glendalynn Dixon Professional Services, spoke at the London event. We caught up with Glendalynn to talk about her involvement with Disrupt HR and what she thinks the HR world still needs to learn.
1) Tell us about Disrupt HR and how you got involved with the organization.
I was invited to speak at this year’s event. The format of the evening, the intent behind the movement and the opportunity to learn from the other speakers in the HR world was too much of a good thing to resist.
2) What is your biggest takeaway from the event?
The ‘human’ element of HR and business is still very much needed. Technology is enabling advances, however, it was people on stage and in the room, sharing their stories of failure, resilience, and positivity that was the focus of the evening.
3) What is the most critical aspect of HR currently in need of disruption?
The perception of HR as the hiring/firing department. HR needs a good PR campaign to ensure everyone else understands just how valuable they are to business operations. Otherwise, you cannot go wrong increasing data fluency. It is a great way to fully leverage some of the business opportunities available to expand the importance of HR in an organization.
4) What are some more resources for people interested in disrupting their HR practice?
For inspiration, I recommend a visit through the thousands of videos on the DisruptHR website is a wonderful starting place; for practical application, adding self-directed resources such as The Successful People Manager (thesuccessfulpeoplemanager.
