Voices.com held its first ever “speed interviews” event on Wednesday, December 18.
A local tech company with international reach, Voices.com was has quickly grown to 30 team members and experienced a noticeable boost in business. This development has resulted in an immediate need of 6 new hires for January 2.
Always thinking outside of the box, David and Stephanie Ciccarelli, the company’s co-founders, built on the recent trend of speed networking and mentorship events to come up with the idea of speed interviews.
Voices.com’s innovative HR hiring practices normally include two interviews: the pre-screening and the heart-to-heart with the CEO and CMO. However, looking for a way to streamline the hiring process to get talent through the doors, and into roles within the company, the Ciccarellis presented the vision of a lightning-quick round of first interviews to their Human Resources Manager, Jessica Campbell, and Public Relations Manager, Trisha Beausaert.
For the innovative, inaugural hiring event, social media and word of mouth were leveraged to attract job-seekers. The result was over a dozen applicants filling the Richmond and Dufferin office, vying for 6 coveted positions within the company. Voices.com was offering 3 Business Development roles, 2 spots for Account Managers, and a Web Developer position.
The process was simple: 4 rounds of 5 minute, themed interviews with the VP of Sales, the VP of Finance, Stephanie, and David in the Voices.com boardroom.
The Speed Interviews affair was as much of a chance for local professionals to get know the company as it was for Voices.com to get to know applicants. Attendees were given the opportunity to tour the office, meet other employees, and learn a little bit more about one of the fastest-growing businesses in Canada.
“We were thoroughly impressed with the calibre and enthusiasm of the professionals who walked through our doors, resumes in hand,” says David. “My fantastic team offered great support, answered questions and gave guided tours through our space while we met with applicants in the most efficient manner imaginable. It was an event that we will most certainly be repeating again in the near future.”
Less than 48 hours after the event, and one of the applicants has already been hired, a clear indication that Voices.com’s Speed Interviews are a novel, functional approach to hiring that is nothing short of innovative.
