If you’ve been following along at home, last week was Global Entrepreneurship Week, and London participated actively thanks to events planned by folks from all over, coming together to share in the spirit of entrepreneurship. One such event was the 2014 WesternU: Startup Showcase. Organized by a team of current Western students, the event was the result of a collaborative effort between three entrepreneurship organizations on campus: Western Founders Network, Nspire, and Western’s Student Entrepreneurship Center. And it went great- over 200 people showed up on campus to participate.
More than ten startups founded by Western Alumni attended the Startup Showcase and the attendees had the chance to learn from founders through the onstage discussions and interviews with the founders from each of these startups. Attendees also enjoyed the hands on portion of the event with the opportunity to try new products the startups have chosen to share at their demo booth. They also enjoyed networking over delicious food served by The Wave Restaurant & Bar.
One particular highlight at the Startup Showcase 2014 was the launch of a new student startup – Cab Share Canada. Cab Share is a free mobile app startup that allows users to connect and share taxis in a more affordable way, by pairing users travelling to similar destinations.
It’s clear that this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week has been a great success. Thanks are due to everyone who helped to organize an event and promote the movement, in London and beyond. Thanks are also due to everyone who came out to celebrate and support GEW 2014, as it shows the strong community of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial spirit that help make this country so great.
